Jim Black Biography
Broadcasting pioneer since 1975, one of the longest running African American Broadcasters on the radio in the entire country.
Jim Black spent 26 months in Viet Nam and claims to be a member of the world’s Largest fraternity American veterans
Moved from Chicago to Charlotte, NC and worked as a TV news photographer/reporter
for WSOC-TV. The first African- American reporter at WSOC-TV

Co-founder of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Council whose mission was to accept students from Charlotte schools who were considered to be troublemakers and/or indifferent. Taught photography and video to those students and 90% graduated from high school and many went on to careers in photography and video production.
Co-founder of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Access Organization, which was responsible for educating elected officials to cable companies capacity for multi-channel capacity and the city’ and county’s potential to negotiate for a government channel, public access channel, and education channel.
First African American to run for mayor of Charlotte and worked to bring district representation to Charlotte Mecklenburg.
Station Manager of WGIV, the only black radio station in Charlotte. In two years, the station was named radio station of the year in small markets.
Hosted the first black talk show in Charlotte, "The Black Rap".
First African American Public Relations and Promotional Director for WAYS and WROQ, whose audience was predominantly white. First African American talk show host on WAYS and WROQ.
Started Jim Black Photography Company
Developed the first video tape production class at Central Piedmont Community College. (It was also the first in the state of North Carolina.)
Developed the first radio station on the campus of historically black Johnson C. Smith, University.
Developed the original photography class at Johnson C. Smith University.
Started the first minority owned research and marketing firm in the state of North Carolina, Remark, Inc.
Developed the first Gospel satellite programming channel in the country, consisted of Gospel music programs 24/7, for satellite music network.
10 year marketing consultant contract with coca-cola and developed it’s minority outreach programs and strategies, that are still used today.
First African American on the board of directors of the latin American coalition
Assisted in fund raising for the latin American coalition and was responsible for helping to write grants that received money from Mecklenburg county and several other organizations.
Responsible for educating elected officials to the growing Hispanic community.
Consultant for top latin newspaper, La Noticia. Responsible for marketing to English speaking Companies as the Hispanic community grew from 6,000 to 40,000.
Assisted in developing marketing strategy for the latin American coaltion to target English speaking companies as sponsors for annual latin American coalition festival.
Assisted in the development of the Hispanic Soccer league and it’s marketing to English speaking companies. It now boasts more than 40 teams.
Assisted in developing the marketing of the annual "Carnaval" Concert to English speaking companies. it attracts more than 60,000 hispanics from all over the southeast.

Responsible for the development of the internet radio network, ReJoy Network, the first black interactive radio network .
